Despite the tent’s versatility, it is made with Coleman’s exclusive WeatherTec system helping guard you from foul weather and nasty storms. WeatherTec tents are made of a coated polyester fabric coalesced with anti-wicking thread, zippers and webbing, all designed to keep you dry as a bone when the rain comes down. The tent’s welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams amplify the water resistance by covering the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. Coleman has tested these WeatherTec tents by exposing them to a rain room that imitates nasty downpours, and also to a wind machine proficient of blowing hurricane force gusts.

One significant downside that a number of people pointed to and that is the fact that this tent does not have a rain fly. With no a rain fly you cannot have the windows open for ventilation when it is raining and it can be pretty hot and humid inside the tent.

This is NOT for backpacking – it’s weighty. And the metal L-shaped tent pegs are not enough to hold up to extended exposure to wind.

Another wonderful feature is the extra room inside and the room divider is a nice added touch. You can actually stand up comfortably in this tent.  With a height of 6 feet 5 inches and vertical walls, you can really live in this tent, no need to crawl and slouch all day.

The only problem is that the poles that go along the top side of each window have broken after just 3 uses.The awning needs some work (that’s why I gave 4 stars instead of 5). It’s tied to attachment points over a door and held by poles in the corners.

It’s heavy! It weighs a ton but the bag it comes in can handle the weight without tearing.

The poles are stout but heavy. This isn’t really a big issue. You aren’t buying this for backpacking; it’s for car camping so the weight to me isn’t an issue.

The tent has a great height. You can stand up comfortably in this tent and move around without needing to crawl.  And it comes with a divider: not a zipper, but it hangs on hooks providing some division.

Setting up is very easy.

Most seams are tape sealed.

The awning provides coverage in the case of rain when going in/out of the tent. It does look quaint and should give you enough shade.The panels in the roof are additional great touch to be able to zip in a small screen to obstruct the sun at daytime and open them for ventilation at night.

The zippers on both sides for power cords are a great addition. The tent comes in a bag with handles that seems reasonably robust although it is made out of plain cloth.

On the weak side, the Coleman only comes with two interior pockets, neither of which was large enough. Another point of worry is the absence of rain-fly.

The Instant tent is quiet heavy for something portable.

When the windows are opened all the way there are no ties to hold them back. If you don’t get them tucked in just right they fall in your face when you are lying on an air mattress.

And a better door system (one zipper instead of two) and better zipper quality would make this tent perfect.

Positive Reviews

First time out of the box it could easily be set up in 60 seconds or less, and it comes down just as easily. Fitting it back in the original bag took a couple minutes, but not any more than other tents in the market.

It has more than enough ventilation; a large window at each side, the back has one bigger window, the front door has a widow too, and another next to the door. Plus there are two roof vents with zippers on them plus a rigid “prop” thing.

There’s enough room for me to stand up fully. It was also very sturdy, even in windy conditions. Everything stayed dry through a light drizzle and damp conditions.

All in all, this is a very good tent with no major problems, highly recommended for both amateur and experienced campers alike.
